I found some good statistics recently that were a surprise to me. I knew WordPress was very popular but had no idea just how dominant it is. According to Trends Built With, WordPress is the CMS used for 62% of Top Million websites (at time of writing). It’s taking over the world! It deserves to as it is a great system from both the developer and users point of view.

Wacom 24HD Available October

New toy! Well I shouldn’t call it that as the Wacom 21UX which I currently have is one of the most productive tools I have ever bought. I’ll be putting my one year old 21UX on Ebay and upgrading to this new model.

The new model has better colour, more screen resolution and a heavy duty stand that makes it operate like a drafting table..

Windows 8 First Look

An impressive first impression of what’s coming for Windows 8. Microsoft have obviosly been heavily influenced by the Apple iPad.

What I find really interesting is that web based applications will be running on the desktop and web developers like myself will be able to make those applications.

Happy New Year

A new year and a new office location – we’ve moved to Koonawarra in the Illawarra.

After living in Sydney for longer than I care to admit I felt a move was overdue so packed up my home and office just before Christmas for the big move south. Its only an hour back to Sydney so I am still availble to meet as needed.

Other than the new location it is business as usual for 2011. The move helps with plans to grow the business. There’s a new computer and camera on order and we’ll be looking for one or two new staff to help with work flow. If you are a web developer or designer looking for freelance work or a job please send through your resume.

Contact information is all the same other than address. Mail is being redirected from the old address while I update customers.

Google Search Engine Revamped

Google is implementing a major update to its search engine, called Caffeine (love the name). The main change is that it will promote newer pages to the top of search results. How long since you updated your web site?

This is a much needed update as the content on the web is becoming older and in many cases search results are cluttered by content that is no longer relevant.

The easiest way to ensure your website is updated frequently is to use a Content Management System (CMS) such as Word Press, Joomla, Drupal or VPASP if you require e-commerce. For most websites we are promoting WordPress for its ease of use and extendibility. The easier it is to use the more likely you will use it.

You can read more about Google Caffeine on the Sydney Morning Herald website.

Did you know?

Well as my link to the old version of this has dropped off YouTube I guess it is time to link to the new version. Not quite as exciting as the old one in my opinion but still it has some interesting statistics on where technology is taking us.

Google going into the e-book business

Having helped customers publish e-books and self publish on Amazon, a big player like Google entering the market is very interesting. I wonder how it fits in with their business of putting books online for free if at all. With the might of Google behind it I will definitely be paying close attention.
